"Rod enjoys the contrast between the light and shade ..."
Rod Bailey took Art as a subject at College, but is basically self-taught from literature. Initially, he worked in watercolour, and then oils, which are his passion. His first attempt at acrylics was a monochrome self-portrait which was hung in the Royal Queensland Art Society’s gallery as part of the Brisbane Portrait Prize's Salon des Refuses.
Rod enjoys the contrast between the light and shade of an image, while getting immersed in the dominant hues produced. He loved learning to draw and used the book “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” as the basis for his leaning.
Wood carving, small jewelery boxes and large installations are also part of Rod’s repertoire.
He now lives on Macleay Island in Morton Bay in Southern Queensland with his partner Faye who is also an artist.
