About Terri and her Art
I was born and bred in Brisbane and now live (and paint) at Bribie Island just north of Brisbane. I was a real estate agent in Brisbane’s inner north for many years and my Dad was a real estate agent all of his life – so I was surrounded by classic Queenslander style homes and have a real love for them – a natural topic for my painting. My fibro beach houses are reminiscent of childhood holidays at the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast – disappearing history. For the last four years I have had the time to concentrate on my art, finally, and have exhibited and sold through local galleries and entered competitions.
Style and Media
I have studied drawing and painting techniques under two art tutors and attended various art workshops. Most of my artworks now are in acrylic and ink on canvas, though I have also completed and sold many others in inks, wax, pen & wash and pastel.
My preference is for stylised Queenslander style houses and retro fibro beach houses – done in bright happy colours. They are not streetscapes done on site nor done from photographs but are imagined places using various favourite home styles familiar to me. For me it’s about the colours, the memories and the charm of these houses. I love it when an art buyer connects with one of my paintings - for their own reasons, which will often be different from my own.
Studied under Bernie Hankins, Terry Bailey, Christine Clarke MPA and Tricia Taylor MPA.
Exhibitions and Competitions
I have participated in a number of successful joint exhibitions, held three solo exhibitions to date, and have entered various competitions.
I was fortunate enough to receive a Highly Commended award in the Matthew Flinders Art Awards in 2015, was a Finalist in Moreton Bay Regional Art Awards in 2016 and was a Finalist in the Brisbane Rotary Art Spectacular in 2017.
From 12 January to 30 June 2018, I will be exhibiting eleven new artworks at St Vincent's Private Hospital, 411 Main St, Kangaroo Point in the Level 4 lounge area for patients and visitors. All works are for sale and commission on sales is donated to the hospital's arts programme which assists patients in their recovery.
My artworks are held in private collections in Canada and Mexico as well as in Queensland and interstate.
Art for Sale
I am also happy to accept commissions.
